Enterprise Manager not functioning properly !

  • Hi all,

    Would appreciate any help with this issue;

    Enterprise Manager is not functioning 100% after upgrading MDAC from 2.6 to 2.8, installing .NET Framework 1.1, Visual J# .NET Redistributable Package 1.1 & Internet Explorer 6 ( not sure which one of these is to blame, if any !! ).  These upgrades were applied so that we could test RedGate's SqlCompare tool to see if it was worth purchasing.

    Specifically, if I run a backup from EM it just either hangs or completes extremely quickly with the following message in the log;

    BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE [CODA] TO  DISK = N'F:\dump_test.dmp' WITH  NOINIT ,  NOUNLOAD ,  NAME = N'CODA backup',  NOSKIP ,  STATS = 10,  NOFORMAT

    Now, if I try the backup from a remote instance of EM ( on another server&nbsp, it completes with no problems !.

    Anyone else had issues with EM after installing any of the software I mentioned ?

    Help !!

    Thanks in advance.

  • Help,

    Anyone got any ideas ?, anyone experienced issues after patching the MDAC ?

  • It's hard to say, but if you can run jobs from a remote server and not locally, it sounds like an authentication problem.  Stupid question maybe, but were you able to run administrative tasks from EM prior to all your loads/upgrades?  Can scheduled jobs run using the system account?

    My hovercraft is full of eels.

  • We upgraded MDAC.  no problem.   Did you try to back up using QA on that server?  I wonder if the error message might be more clear.  Check the SQL Log and the event log for further messages.
