  We are thinking about hard-code the client with specific port number to avoid using UDP Port 1434. I am wondering how the cluster server assign the port number to each instance. Could the port number get changed during a restart of the server? Thank you for your help.

  You can assign the static port number by using the Server Network Utility for each instance.
