2000 DTS from 2005 Management Studio

  • I am using SQL Server 2005 Management Studio to management SQL Server 2000 servers.  I have downloaded the DTS editor and it works under the Legacy tab.  But when I have a DTS package the Query editor seems to loose functionality.  The Control-C and Control-v keys seem not to work consistently.  The Toolbar buttons like "Execute" the query are grayed out.  When I close the DTS package it all comes back.

Is anyone else experiencing this and is there a patch?

    Thanks

    Steve

  • Honestly, I haven't spent too much time looking for a fix, but understanding the fact that DTS is depreciated in SQL2005, and with the plan to some time migrate them to SSIS, I continue to use SQLEM for DTS and Management Studio for anything else...

  • I have experienced similar issues. In my example the arrow keys and backspace keys on the keyboard do not work.

I have not found a patch, if you find one can you please update this post?

    I'll do the same.

  • same thing

    any clue, someone?

  • Is SP1 for SQL 2005 applied ?

  • There seems to be no where around it, beside  i strongly advise you to use the SQLEM for editing the DTS.

Using the 2005 module has wasted lots of my time because if your DTS has a FTP task in it. It will get all messed up:

    1. You won't be able to edit the FTP task from the SQLEM.

    2. The FTP task tries to read the source files from "your" directories insteard of the "server" directories.

    Thank you.

  • Opening a 2nd SQL Mgmt Studio and running queries from the 2nd Mgmt Studio seems to fix the keyboard issue.

However, I still can't use delete, arrows, backspace, etc. from the 1st Mgmt Studio's query window.

As soon as I close the legacy DTS window, the keys work properly on the 1st Mgmt Studio.
