Connection Error: Sql Server does not exist or access denied

  • sql server is installed on a windows 2000 server.  all the windows xp machines can connect to sql on the server except the other windows 98 or 2000 machines.  the 98 and 2000 machine can connect to the server, but not to sql.  any suggestions?

  • May be a resolution problem:

try to add the sql server host in the lmhost/host file or run DNS for name resolution

  • Try installing the latest version of MDAC on the clients who need to connect to SQL.  I've had issues in the past when clients had older versions like 2.5.  Upgrading to the latest version has always worked for me.
