Problems with Microsoft OS Patches, KB890830 and KB950749

  • One of our DTS packages was performing fine until our monthly maintenance window in May. The only maintenance the server team said they performed was to apply two Microsoft OS patches, KB890830 and KB950749. After the maintenance window the performance on this DTS package degraded considerably. The job does not complete, and the CPU gets pegged at 100%.

    I had the developer change some code but this did not help. We even ran the package outside of the normal window thinking there might be contention with other jobs. Then we had the server team apply the patches to the test environment and a copy of the production database was made to a test. The DTS ran with no incident.

    We have done considerable research but cannot find any resolution. I know there are probably differences between the test environment and production but our server team hasn't been much help in this area. Unfortunately, I do not have access to the production server.

    Has anyone heard of, or experienced, any problems after applying these OS patches? Any help would be appreciated.

  • Haven't heard of anything. What does the package do?

    You might need to call Microsoft support for this.

  • We had a very similar problem. It ended up being the network card drivers.
