Missing column errors managing SQL2000

  • I get error message complaining about missing columns in SQL2000 SP3a

It seems to be a problem with MSDB. I don't have a backup as this is a new server that contains data migrated from a SQL 6.5 database and I get the error when trying to schedule maintenance and backups amongst other things.

If I set up SQL 2000 and apply SP3a on another PC will I be able to just replace the current MSDB files with the newly created ones?

At some point during test runs of the migration we must have screwed MSDB up, and didn't do a clean install before the conversion.

It was a rush conversion and the DB is live and a reinstall is not really an option at the moment - particularly as everything else is working fine.

    Cheers

  • I think that will work. Need to script out your jobs and script back in to get it all working again (before/after changing out msdb).

  • We disconnected all the user databases, moved the system databases and rebuilt them.

That seemed to do the job just fine.

    Cheers
