NT 4.0 / SQL 6.5 can be intalled in a XEON Server ?

  • Hi everyone. For a particular reason I have NT 4.0 and SQL 6.5 in my company. I must maintain this version for a year more but I want to know if NT 4.0 and SQL Server 6.5 could be installed on a Server with INTEL XEON double processors. There is any problem with SQL 6.5 and XEON technology?. Does anybody know it?.

  • I support HIS systems for a living and we have many clients running SQL 6.5/NT4.0 on quad xeon processors with no problems.

  • I ran 6.5 on NT 4.0 with dual and quad Xeon's prior to upgrading.  We did not have a problem due to the processor, either.  SQL 6.5 was a little flaky anyway, but that wasn't due to the processor -- it was flaky on pentium pro's too.

  • Hi, Joe. When you say "SQL 6.5 was a little flaky" that means the SQL 6.5 doesn't work well ?. Does it give you any errors ?. Or only means loss of computing power. Sorry but I'm a little confused with the meaning of "flaky". !!!

  • Hi Rafael,

Sorry for the US slang -- it is very difficult not to use it sometimes.  By flaky, I mean that it is not as robust as 7 or 2000; with 2000, I have had no true operational problems in over 3 years.

Sometimes I had issues on the 6.5 systems where shutdowns were required.  I don't remember exactly what they were now (possibly memory related), but I remember it as having been "flaky".

    Regards,

    Joe
