NT4 SQLServer7 to WIN2K3 SQL Server 2000 linked server connection problem

  • Hi all

We have problem where we are trying to connect to a WIN2K3 SQL Server 2000 server from a NT4 SQL Server 7 via a linked server.

We have set up the linked server, but we can't connect to the WIN2K3 SQL Server, if we set up the linked server to another SQL Server running on WIN2K it works ok.

The error that it returns is a vague one. "Error = 2" or something to that effect.

It appears that the WIN2K3 server has some additional security that prevent us from gaining access to the machine.

When I use profiler I don't even see the linked server connection hit the server, or see any login errors.

    Any Idea's

  • Have you verified that the 7 server can actually see the w2k3 server over the network at all?

ie ping, map drives, odbcping, manual QA login 7.0 -> 2k3 etc..

    /Kenneth
