Running an Application from a Trigger or Sproc

    Is it possible to run an application (ie Word or Excel) from an Insert trigger? Or, is it possible to launch an application from a stored procedure?

    Steve -

    You can use xp_cmdshell to execute just about anything (given you have the permission).  Don't know if this would violate 'best practices' to call from a trigger??
