Merge Replication Error Failed to enumerate filtered articles

  • Greetings!

I have setup Merge Replication on my server and my subscriber is pocket pc device which hosts SQL CE on it. Sql Ce server agent,IIS and publisher are on the same machine with SQL Server 2000 sp3 installed on it..Recently, I got this error "Failed to enumerate filtered articles" since last 2 months no problem..I researched on the net and found a KB Article which say u have to install the latest service pack for SQL Server 2000. there was another solution of rebooting the system..i did a reboot and oo-la my schronization again started working..i was just thinking is this a temporary solution and for a permanent one do i need to go ahead and install sp4 fpor sql 2000?? any ideas

    ..

    thanks for the time

    regards,

    dilip

  • this problem is transitory. Most of the time is will clear next time you run the agent.

  • You can get a hotfix which fixes this issue

you dont need all of SP4 if you cant do it yet,

I have done this and has solved the problem without rebooting

If its the same one that i had, then it has to do with how the randomly generated name of temporary tables is created and the fact that after a given period of time (the internet posts i have seen say about 30 -40) the value used in the randomly generated name goes negative, and you cant have dashes in temp tables..

alternatively you reboot every 30 - 40 days

i havent seen running any agent fix the issue...yet.

Checkout the microsoft KB about it as it specifically tells you whats going on with it.

  • Thanks both of you for the inputs. I actually have applied the latest service pack(SP4) on my server..

    Thanks and Regards,
