Are there any free data modeling tools which can be used with SQL Server.

The one that comes built in with SQL Server. It's not great, at all, but it does the basics reasonably well. If you have a full Office license there's also a way to do it through Vizio, but I'd rather have someone smashing my toes with a hammer. I'm not aware of any others that are cost free.
