how many certs to get?

    Im wondering if i should go and get more certs or not. Let me explain.

    I have just passed teh  70-431 exam. it is great benifit to me as I use much of the stuff in it on a daily basis. My job does not call for me to know much outside of the 70-431 exam ( at least on the sql side of things). i would like to do the rest of the admin exams, but if i did, id only be doing them for the cert, not the knowledge. As i wouldnt be using the knowledge learned from the exams much, It would just be forgotten, so I would have certs that I could not immediately live up to in 2 years time. Is it still worth going on and getting the certs, in your opinion, or should i wait until i am in a job that requires that level of expertise and do the certs to match?

    Hello Smith,

    It would be wise if you wait until you get a job in that line and gain some exposure before you attempt for the admin exams. As you said it might give you an edge in your resume to show that you are certified but employers might look for the necessary experience / knowledge. My suggestion to you would be to expose yourself to start with small things of administration in your leisure time on your personal machine so that by the time you get into a job you can straight away catch hold of small admin things without any problem and concentrate on the higher level.
