All you need is exchange server and valid MAPI Profile. Specify the profile name under the SQL Mail -> support services and start it. And at the backup job go to the notification and specify the email operator. Alternatively you can buy a Skytel pager and you can directly use it as a email notification with out installing any software. Specify yourpagernumber@skytel.com.
