I'm curious. How many people subscribe to a job service (or keep in touch with job sites / recruiters) because they're currently looking?Or do you just keep in touch just to keep an eye on the market?
I keep the emails coming from monster, dice, et al, to keep an eye on the market. Since my resume is public an dactive recruiters contact me regularly.
I need to do a better job keeping in touch with the recruiters I've worked with to keep my eye on the market, especially since I'm working contracts now.

Jeff gets my vote.
One of the first articles I read on this site was his one on triangular joins -- it was eye opening.
I thought I knew T-SQL fairly well, but I approached it like a procedural coder (cursors; encapsulating logic in multi-statement tvfs, etc.). Jeff's articles have made me a set-based evangelist; completely changed the way I model my procedures.
Now I try to pass that mind set onto my junior developers so that they don't develop RBAR habits.

Not sure about the command-line bit, but if I stretch that to scripting instead of using wizards, then it applies.

What are you going to be covering?
Execution plans, everything we can fit into 7 hours on execution plans (generating, extracting, reading, etc)
Who are you planning to execute? Or are you taking nominations?

But it contains one big mistake: it claims that it's OK for developers not to be lazy. Any developer who isn't sufficiently lazy to want to avoid time spent on fixing bugs is a waste of space; any developer who isn't sufficiently lazy to make sure his system uses only a small part of available resources is a waste of space; any developer who is too stupid to write reusable code to avoid having to do the same job twice is an idiot; and so on - just like good admins.

True, computers are intended to allow us to be lazier / enhance our abilities[/url]. Anyone who is using them to be *busier* is doing it wrong.
