    Of course, they could be just figuring that you are their insurance policy - they are paying you aren't they?:-D

    If so, they're paying a DBA to be ready to start rebuilding the system from scratch, with no viable backups. That's like paying a contractor to be ready to start rebuilding your house if it gets destroyed - yes, he'll answer the phone when you call, but without money for materials, etc. (which an actual insurance policy would have provided), he's not going to be able to build you a new house to live in.

    My Recovery Plan

    1) SCREAM really loudly so everyone knows there is a problem.

    2) Run out of the building as fast as possible.

    3) Update my resume.

    4) Job hunt.

    5) Repeat as needed.

    Ahhh...in our company, we consider naivete and blissful ignorance as sound DR practices. Some of us troublemakers prefer to do silly things like script out all logins and generate a snapshot with SQL Compare at the very least.

    probably just some self imposed busy work to make you seem like you are doing something if someone were to check on you; I mean what are the chances you'd ever use those scripts?!?

    I know I keep those same kind of busy-work products in a folder on my machine too, but i'm sure i only do it so i can add them to emails that no one would read anyway....

    --help us help you! If you post a question, make sure you include a CREATE TABLE... statement and INSERT INTO... statement into that table to give the volunteers here representative data. with your description of the problem, we can provide a tested, verifiable solution to your question! asking the question the right way gets you a tested answer the fastest way possible!

    I have some SQL Fairies that come each night and somehow make all my problems disappear. But if I try to look for them or fail to bribe them with pizza (+10 if you get that reference), I risk them not doing my work for me and making sure all the DB's are safe.
