  • Cool!

Hmm, now to plan a Mexican vacation with the wife...

My wife and I decided to check out some Mayan ruins near one of our ports of call during our cruise. I wasn't sure what to expect other than rocks in the middle of nowhere. However, once you get there and monkeys are swinging from the trees and you come around the clearing...well you can't help but think "damn, this isn't something you see everyday!"

I'd thought I'd share a few images. These pyramids/ruins are at Chacchoben which are a far cry from the likes of Giza or Chichen Itza (I can imagine). All the same It was pretty cool to see and experience. :w00t:

Now that is very cool. It's a trip I hope to do someday. Thanks for sharing.

VARCHAR(1) is my favorite data type of all time... Well, behind VARIANT, but hopefully that's going to be on the ash heap soon.

If I recall, though, to give the poor guy a break, this did come from an Oracle to SQL conversion on a very tight timetable and he wasn't the original architect of the Oracle side...

At least it's using datetime to store date information!

Even better when it is defined as NOT NULL and has a constraint to enforce > ''

    😛

Yes, the Mayans built a great civilization in the middle of the Jungle. That's just a part of what made them amazing. 🙂 I really love when people are excited after visiting my country. There are so many places that will amaze anyone.

My pleasure...I even had the opportunity to visit Chichen Itza on the same trip from Cozumel. However, it was a 10 hour round trip from the port and it would have cut it close to when the ship was set to depart. I was a little uneasy with the chance of watching the ship leave without me. lol

I'll have to head back some day.

Even better when the length isn't specified.

BTW, I'll be going on SQL Cruise in January. It's stopping at Cozumel. Who wants to go see the pyramid with me?

Really? Even better than NVARCHAR(MAX) CHECK (Column IN (N'Y', N'N'))?

    EDIT: ... or NCHAR(1000) CHECK (Column IN (N'Y', N'N'))

It is well worth seeing, the only thing kind of awkward was the fact that the Mayans were considerably shorter than I so I had to bend backwards when entering the ruins.

Awesome! I do have some advice...as I mentioned heading to Chichen Itza was a 10 hour round trip excursion from Cozumel. Cruise ships have and will leave without you if you don't make it back in time. That being said most cruise ships offer these excursions directly on board (or can be booked ahead of time). They will be more expensive than if you just walked off the pier and booked the same tour directly with the local provider. The upside is that they (at least Royal Caribbean did) guarantee that you will make it back on board. What this involves I'm not sure...maybe they wait, or send transportation if something like a breakdown happens, who knows? Either way that's not a 'bus' you want to miss.

And remember that Cozumel is an island, so you'll need a ferry to get to/from Playa del Carmen. I'm not sure if the tours will have a special transportation, but I'd be glad to ask a friend who lives there if you want more information.

  • Hey Brandie, cheddar is not better!! LOL (it's all personal preference of course)

That being said I did recently try an Irish Cheddar which was excellent. I like something with a stronger flavor profile when it comes to cheeses...Asiago, Swiss, Oka. Although I did stray a little too far once and bought some Stinton. Ooooh boy that was something else...acquired taste for sure. Well for me anyway.

Personally I like the NVARCHAR(1) fields. Those make me realize the level of understanding of the person who made the database.

Behind that one is the series of VARCHAR(50) showing they just took the defaults without thinking about the field use.

    Good times...
