I worked for an economically challenged company for a number of years where the soft cost of my salary was always preferable to the hard cost of an license upgrade and any required hardware upgrades. Although professionally this was frustrating, personally it made my salary more affordable to the company to not buy those upgrades. I would rather deal the work arounds than be pushed into part time employment, or into the unemployment line.
