Need info regarding License

  • Hi,

I have  SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition license with expiry date December 2008.

I came to know that Microsoft is going to stop support for SQL Server 2000 by April 2008. Does it mean that my license is also going to expire by April 2008?

What will be the cost if I upgrade from SQL Server 2000 to 2005 ? What is the procedure to do so?

Thanks for ur Time in Advance.

  • Your license won't expire when support ends.  See the Support Lifecycle explanation here: http://support.microsoft.com/?pr=lifecycle

As for upgrading, you'll just need a new license when your SQL 2000 license expires.  We've found that the cost for SQL 2005 licenses isn't very different than the cost of SQL 2000.  See licensing and pricing here: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/default.mspx

  • Hi Greg,

Thanks for your time to reply. By the provided links I'm more clear.

  • I don't think licenses expire. Once you bought it its yours forever. Support or subscription however expires.
