TEMPDB Help

  • We have temporary tables in tempdb dating back to 8/31/2008 and I cannot shrink tempdb. It is currently 12004 MB with 12001 Free but says "Page XXX cannot be moved as it is a work table"

We have mirroring and replication (Publisher) set up on this server and there are no application logins earlier than 9/1 so they could have not created these tables before even logging in.

temp is kind of a black box to me and what I am looking for is what are using these tables (script possibly relating sysprocesses to the objects in tempdb).

Currently there are the processes that are running besides background system processes

    Repl-LogReader-4-Database2

    SQLAgent - Generic Refresher

    Repl-LogReader-4-Database1

    SQLAgent - Alert Engine

    SQLAgent - Job invocation engine

    Microsoft® Windows® Operating System

  • stop / start the instance and it will re-allocate tempdb with its prior space numbers.

(because it has to clear its work space file)

  • That I understand but I was wanting to find out what would be holding resources in tempdb (which process) for 8 days without releasing them
