Regarding the COALESCE(SUM(...)):
COALESCE - in contrast to ISNULL - will internal replaced by an CASE WHEN <xxx> IS NOT NULL THEN <xxx> ELSE <yyyy>
This means, that <xxx> will be calculated...

Even if he would use the correct order, he must not use CHECKSUM because it is not case sensitive (if you are using the default collation for your DB):
SELECT CHECKSUM('ABC')...

a better solution (can even be done in GUI if you don't want write code :-D):
- add a new file to the filegroup
- run DBCC ShrinkFile on the original file...

I'm lazy and use FIRST_VALUE with ORDER BY x DESC instead of this extra long LAST-VALUE syntax.
