I guess the reason for not using select @@version (which I agree is far easier to type ) is that @@version requires further interpretation to establish the SP level (namely you have to look up the help topic that lists SP levels and their associated versions!)

I don't have time right now to look up the actual syntax but what you need to do is use the "Parameters" collection and add it to the command object.

If you are only filtering the columns in the publication, then you shouldn't have any problems. You must be doing something wrong if the fileds gtes shifted. I think it is because the changes are so minor ie 1 install problem 1 MDAC memory leak 1 new feature on the Network Library (ie disable listening) Most people use the network library, hence other than the memory leak there is no advantage.
