You'll need to 1) rename the table 2) recreate the table specifying IDENTITY for COL1 3) insert data from the original table. Note also that, to be an IDENTITY, the scale of COL1 must be zero. ie. NUMERIC(p,0) Cheers, - Mark

the account that starts this account belongs to the administrators group (on the domain) but that group is not in the local administrators group. I suppose this must be why it is giving me this error. I won't be able to reboot till tonight so I'll keep you posted. (crossing fingers) -Francisco

There is a separate process that performs a disc to tape copy of the .bak files. And the backups are on a separate raid controller, not on the actual database server. I have looked into the maintenance plans and have suggested using that as an alternative for the very reasons you (mccork) have mentioned. Thanks!

Thanks Shas3, This is a reporting db and I have additional backups on the VAX/Alpha platform. My mission-critical dbs use separate drives to store the data, the logs, and the backups. Loading is done once per week overnite so I/O is not a consideration. I am just trying to find out why the datafiles grow […]

This may not be applicable, but we have done disk migrations by using Veritas Volume Manager. Within Volume Manager you have the ability to create a mirror of the disk, replace disk signatures, etc. All while the drives are online. We have used this to migrate 1TB of data with no user impact.
