RE: Table Relationships

You are welcome. If you use something like this make sure there are no gaps in the data. There has to be an entry for every hour of the day otherwise you will get wrong results. We have used this technique several times and it works well. ( although I have not used it to […]

Return records through a linked server that uses ODBC data source

  • Topic

Hi,I used sp_addlinkedserver to link to a remote server using ODBC(MSDASQL). When I execute select count(*) from LinkSrv.SI.DBO.SIHeader in SQL Query Analyzer. It returns 13705 records. But when I execute select * from LinkSrv.SI.DBO.SIHeader. It only return 885 records. If I specify some columns, select ODCOMP, ODPONO, ODVDCD from LinkSrv.SI.DBO.SIHeader. It returns more records, 1213 […]

I have uninstalled Reader, installed the latest version, and I be darned if it doesn't […]

Ok... you've convinced me... I was implementing a trigger that would email if certain rules were met.I'm not saying that sending notifications to users (or running some other process) on data change is a bad idea. Although I think this is not the best way to handle things, that's a separate discussion. I'm focusing on […]

How does defragmenting o/s affect SQL Server?

  • Topic

I am considering running Diskeeper in the background on a NT4 server containing a SQL Server instance.  How will this affect the databases?  There are Maintenance plan jobs in place for optimisation and integrity checks.  I was wondering if anyone had opinions on the cumulative effect of re-organising the data/indexes in these jobs as well as defragmenting the files […]
