Sounds like you are using an ADO object to open a file. Try reading the result into a DataSet object instead. If you must read using adoObject.Open, you will need to have a permanent table. Guarddata

Always better to make one trip instead of two if you can. You can handle it by supporting 'x' sets of detail parameters in your proc, or you can build up a XML doc, send that over as a param, then use OpenXML (SQL2K only) to rip it up and do the insert/update. We had this same problem a while back and did a quick test (transferred a 4gig file) from server a then server b. There was a significant difference and thus eliminated SQL and pointed to a networking/OS issue. Just another trick to put in your troubleshooting bag-o-tricks.
