RE: SP and Patch Notifications

Hi hawg, subscribing to MS security alerts is a starting point I also use. Further I keep my eyes open while joining forums like this one. There are also mailinglist from websites like http://www.securityfocus.com or alike. This has proven to work fine, but I doubt you can write this down in some kind of company […]

And the test shouldn't be changed to make the UDP more obvious. Good Security is never obvious or easy...it takes work and paying attention to detail, which is what I forgot to do. -SQLBill

RE: Conflicting MDAC versions

gts31 was not only upgrade MDAC, but also installed SQL Server 2000 client tools that is used by DTS in his machine too. Higher version of MDAC is supposed to be backward compatible to the low version but it is not true always. I have seen some old applications that use old MDAC do not […]

RE: Transaction Modes

I think your unstanding about Implicit transactions is correct. From BOL. "Implicit transactions A new transaction is implicitly started when the prior transaction completes, but each transaction is explicitly completed with a COMMIT or ROLLBACK statement." You do nothing to delineate the start of a transaction, you only commit or roll back each transaction. Implicit […]

RE: Distribution Statistics

  • Reply

Reading through my old MS notes from SQL 6.5 days it appears that running UPDATE STATISTICS on a table will recreate all distribution statistics within an index. Moving forward to SQL7/2000 this will also update distribution statistics built using CREATE STATISTICS. Although there is a database option to auto update statistics (defaults to on) there […]

RE: Conflicting MDAC versions

Ok, one last question...how do I know which DTS designer I am using? I can find versions anywhere. What happened was I had installed the trial version of SQL Server 2000 and it must have replaced my tools with 2000 tools. I am running a SQL 7 only shop right now and need to get […]
