So many of the problems that organisations have with their IT applications are due to the struggle with data, in the absence of overall organization-wide control and supervision of data and its progress through the various parts of the organization. Master data management (MDM) offers a solution to the many data woes by controlling data change, It does it in an analogous way to Version Control, so that changes are cleansed, checked, tracked and audited, and any named version can be published to other services. Now Microsoft has an implementation as part of the data platform.

ok. Thanks for the reply.. i was thinking of using an UDF like a shortcut.. at the end i took the stored procedure approach, more line of codes.Hopefully in future version i can do that.. 2005 can't do that too right.

Actuate (www.actuate.com) may be overkill - no idea what you're after. Much more powerful reporting tool than any of the above, but is also a server based tool that is not for the casual user. jeff

I once got into trouble during a code review by the client. My error handler was called Hell. In the code it read: On Error GoTo Hell Client lacked the sense of humour.... Cheers, Crispin
