I'd recommend WinRAR as well. It can handle HUGE DB sizes. I compressed a 100GB database (no free space) down to 6 GB using the normal compression rate with WinRAR.

It really depends on how secure your LAN is behind your firewall. As many organizations have found out a firewall doesn't protect you from: - VPN connections - If users are allowed to VPN into your network, any virus, worm, etc on their machine now has access to your LAN behind the firewall. - Laptops […]

Using Access you could build a small app with unbound forms. Create an insert, update and delete procedure in SQL Server. SAMS Microsoft Access Developer's Guide to SQL Server has examples of how to do this. If it was just a question of updating a table with known data, the simplest way would be to […]

Anything with similar power will probably have similar liabilities. I'd recommend against Query Analyzer, for some reason users find it pretty daunting. When you say edit, is it just find a single row and edit, or they apply update queries? If the requirements are simple enough, you could throw together a small custom app that […]

I had same scenario of moving 8 databases from a SQL 7 server to a newly built SQL 7 server some time ago. I used the article Greg Larsen provided (246133) and it worked fantastic. Two additional articles that were of help are: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b314546 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3ben-us%3b240872 Both above articles have links to other MS articles that […]

Thank you for the reply. Since the input data is very limited and the first character is unique, the ASCII allowed for simply checking of upper/lower case. The problem is in the DTS Execute SQL Task. It apparently does not allow the use of any native SQL functions (ASCII, Convert, etc) in conjunction with an […]
