DBA's & Photography

  • A photography website I use recently had a thread that put for the correlation that many pople who have photography as a hobby nowadays dont necessarily have an artisitic background etc but often have an I.T background.. (I think the sweeping generalisation being boys and their toys etc )

Which set me wondering any other DBA's on this site into photography etc ?

    cheers si

  • Not I unless you count volumes of family pictures.

I do know a few IT folks, programmers, that are into photography.

  • Not here either.

Although the 'boys and their toys' theory could be right. Many DBA's and other IT people I know ride motorbikes, and even have pictures of them as their desktop wallpaper! (One of them is a lady too!).

I know several IT pro's as well and they ride motorcycles too. Myself, I've a handfull of bikes in the garage and am a dedicated trackday junkie....have to have at least one (trackday) a month.

And yes, I have wallpapers of myself at the racetrack....but I don't autograph them. 😉

I think that it may be the somewhat lucrative salaries that help us pay for our (more expensive) toys.

    Your friendly High-Tech Janitor... 🙂

  • maybe its just differing forms of mid-life crisis !

  • What about IT poets?

    Different strokes you know...

  • Some of us dba's are not 'boys' at all and we also like our toys! 😛 (This site doesn't even have any 'girl' icons!!!)

I am involved in motorbiking on weekends, painting, drawing, stained glass and yes, photography!

Isn't creating BI schemas and db's a very creative activity so it follows that dba's would have creative past times as well.

    Any other girls out there?

  • I like photography, just haven't really been into it lately. Was really into it while in junior high school. Had a darkroom at home and everything. Only did black and white photography then as color photography was both more difficult and expensive.

I have also been surprised on the pitch to see how many IT folks officate sports (not just soccer!).

by no means was the phrase "boys and their toys" meant to exclude women and their toys !!

thank god for digital 🙂 but b&W always looks better than colour anyways 🙂

  • How funny, I never really thought about it much. I myself am a DBA and an avid photographer, and have several friends in IT that are as well. Here is a link to my photography if anyone is interested.

  • Very nice, Denis. I like the waterfall and beach pictures.

  • I like the old truck (?) abandoned and forgotten ones

we just don't get such cool looking abandoned vehcicles in the uk 🙁 !

  • Si,

You make a burnt out 1993 Vauxhall Nova 1.3 rotting by the side of a main road for six months sound so dull!

They are cool pictures though. The Golden Gate at night would make a great wall shot. 😎
