2000 Installation fails from CD

  • I am trying to install 2000 on a laptop from our SQL Server CD. The first time I tried, I got the error, "Installation of the Microsoft Data Access Components Failed (-1)." I never have got this error before.

I rebooted and tried again. This time I got an error, "The following software package you want to install is not signed: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ADO\SET379.tmp." I pressed OK, then got the same error as before.

  • Try downloading and installing MDAC before the SQL Server install. This has been known to resolve some of the install issues. MDAC site:

For whatever reason, MDAC seems the most flaky piece of the SQL Server install process. MDAC 2.6 is what shipped with SQL 2K. MDAC 2.7 has been out a while and should be fine as well.

  • Getting MDAC 2.6 SP2 appears to have cured it. Thanks.
