Adding an existing package to the list in BIDS without making a copy?

  • This is always something that has bugged me in BIDS, and I've never been able to figure out a cleaner way of doing it...

Every once in a while, I accidentally select "Exclude From Project" instead "Execute Package". That removes the package from the project (obviously).

What I want to do is add the package back on to the list, but BIDS creates a second copy - with the (1) added to the name. Since all of the packages are in TFS, this creates a big pain in the butt where I have to remove the original, delete the file from the file system, rename the "(1)" package, blah, blah, blah.

Is there a way to just add the package, as is, back onto the list without having to go through all that rigamarole?

    Thanks!

    Dan

  • You could edit the project file directly, it really is nothing more than a text file. I've done it many times, especially to re-order things..

  • Use "Add Existing Item" instead of "Add Existing Package". It will not make a copy of the package.

  • You're my new best friend!

    Thanks Peter!
