Anyone taken 70-445 (BI exam)?

  • Has anyone taken the Business Intelligence exam (70-445) yet?

If so, can you give me a good idea of what kind of study materials I'll need for it?  Or is this one of those tests that if you pass the Developer and Admin tests, you'll have what you need for BI?

Some how I doubt it is, but one never knows until the question is asked. @=)

  • I'm interested in this one as well. I'm currently working on 70-431 but will probably chase the 445 shortly thereafter.

I'll now manually subscribe to this thread (grrr....) in case anyone replies.

  • It's funny. I never got notified of a reply to this thread or my other thread...

I'd love to hear from anyone who has taken the exam as to its difficulty level and/or any study materials they might have used. I don't care if you passed or failed. I just looking for some generic (non-NDA related) info. @=)

    Thanks in advance!

  • Yes, that's a nasty little bug with the redesign - you are not automatically subscribed to a thread when you post to it, and you have to manually subscribe to receive notifications. Steve and the guys at Red Gate are looking into this.

  • I passed the exam a few weeks ago.

You can find some tips in a blog I wrote about the 70-445 exam: http://sqlblogcasts.com/blogs/jorg/archive/2007/11/15/MCTS-_2D00_-I-passed-the-70_2D00_445-exam_2100_.aspx

    Good luck 🙂

  • Hey, Jorg, the article Steve pointed out also has info on the 446 exam. You might want to check it out.

  • Hi guys,

I've been doing the labs and I'm getting about 90% on the Measure Up pre-exam testing software for the 70-445 exam. With these sort of scores, do you think I'm ready for my exam?

I'm going to focus on SSIS and Data Mining in the run up to my exam, but is there anything else you could recommend to help me pass my exam.

    All comments appreciated - thanks.

PS - 1 more questions: Do you feel that this exam arms you with the necessary skills to comfortably work in BI projects in the real world?

  • Dave,

90%? Depends. How comfortable do you actually feel with the material? Do you think you could pass the exam, no distractions, without having a copy of BOL or anything else to rely on?

Could you answer some of these questions if your coworkers asked you how to do things? Again, without referencing the source material?

If someone asked you a question that wasn't in your measure-up practice exam, do you think you could answer those?

If the answer to all these questions is yes, then I'd say you're more than ready. But remember, "ready" is a mental state as much as it is a studying thing. If you feel you're ready, go for it. If you feel really nervous, I'd say study some more.

  • Well,

I'm please to say that I have passed! 😀

For anyone who is interested, my experience / knowledge was predominately from the 70-445 training book. To be honest, I think some real world experience using the software would really help anyone wishing to take the exam. I felt that there was a bit of a gap, between the experience and knowledge the book can give you and the sort of questions that your asked in the exam.

I think some of what you need to know comes from day in & day out experience.

    onto the 70-446 I go ! :smooooth:

  • I've passed the 70-446 exam last week!

I managed to score 93% on it while I scored 70% on the 70-445 exam.

Read more about the exam on my blog:
