Hi
On several occassions, when doing SQL backups, I receive the following message -
"The file on device 'tapedump1' is not a valid Microsoft Tape Format".
These DLT tapes have previously been used for sql backups. I then format the tape in Windows, try again and sometimes the backup works, and sometimes I get the same message. This even happens with new tapes after they have been formated. In most of my backup scripts, I use the 'INIT' option.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, do you know the reason. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Philip

Anytime that I have done Sql backups to tape, I use the format option with the first database I backup to that tape and the noinit option with any others that I backup to that tape.
Hope that helps.

No, only SQL databases.
