CAL licences for sql server

  • Hi Folks,

If you have an application that accesses sql server and has multiple users for that application do have to count a CAL for the users accessing the application or can you just count a CAL for the application connections to the database?

  • The licensing is per end user, ie, all your users using the application. This same principle is as if you have a web server accessing a SQL Database. This is called multiplexing...... Now, in the case of a webserver, it is most of times more cost effective to hace a SQL CPU license instead of CAL's.
