Can AWE be used on Windows XP

  • Hello,

I inherited a machine with 32GB of RAM on it.

The only OS I can install on it is Win XP.

If I put SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on it would it allow me to use AWE technology?

I tried to search around but there is seem no information if XP will support it

    Thank you

    Alex

  • Check the following details, from MSDN

SQL Server 2005 uses the Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) API to support very large physical memory sizes. SQL Server 2005 supports up to a maximum of 64 GB of physical memory on 32-bit Microsoft Windows operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP Professional; Windows 2000 Standard Edition; Windows 2000 Advanced Server; Windows 2000 Datacenter Server; Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition; or Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition.

  • Thank you fro reply

At some point I have seen an article telling that different OSs allow different max memory to be addressed using AWE.

And will XP allow SQL 2005 to dynamically manage AWE memory?

There is very little information available on this.

    Thank you again
