Can I get the password

    Hi,

    Can i get the password for a particular login. I have create a linked server using a prticular login but the problem is that I don't have the password for that login id. Is there a way that I can reteive the password for this login.

    As a general rule of thumb, unless someone else knows it and gives it to you, or you are clever enough to understand the person who set it to guess it, you CANNOT obtain the password. However, if you have sufficient rights, you can RESET the password. Is this login a user login or one used only for jobs or other automated processes?

    This login is used for the linked server processes at quite a few servers and is also used for few jobs. So it is really difficult to reset the password as it means changing a quite a lot of things. I do have the rights to reset the password but was just wondering if by any chance I can get the password.
