Can we use one of the shared drives (Data/log/bkp/temp) for configuring MSDTC ?

  • Hi Experts,

We are going to install a SQL Server 2012 Ent. Edition two node (Active/Passive) cluster. Only one instance.

Issue is, a separate shared storage is not provision for MSDTC.

    1. Is it mandatory to configure MSDTC for a single SQL 2012 instance ?

    2. Can we use one of the shared drives (Data/log/bkp/temp) for configuring MSDTC ?

    Thanks in advance.

  • you should ideally use a separate disk for the DTC resource

  • Thanks Perry.

I understand that its not mandatory from SQL Server 2012 ad it will be using local DTC when its required.

Hence I am planning NOT to configure MSDTC cluster.

We are installing only one instance (DB engine and client).

Do you have any suggestions ?

    Thanks again.
