Check unauthorized access

  • Hi All,

I needed to check if there are any unauthorized accesses on SQL Server for security. I have created an audit which would show all successful logins. I wanted to know if this is the way to do it.

Please let me know your thoughts.

  • I would probably audit failed logins as well so you can see who is trying to access the server in an unauthorized manner.

Also can you define unauthorized access? If a person successfully logs in then they are authorized to access the server.

Need an Answer? Actually, No ... You Need a Question

  • Unauthorized access is in the control of the DBA, no? If I say user1 can access the DB, then user1 can access the DB.

If i do NOT add user2 as a login, then user2 cannot access the DB.

Jack is right though. You might be looking for Failed Logins which will show an Unauthorized attempt to access the DB.
