Connecting from Enterprise Manager to SQL Server 2005 64x

  • Hi,

I have just installed SQL Server 2005 64 bit. But I cannot get any of my other SQL Server 2000 servers to connect to it.

I have checked rights and permissions. But I just can't find the cause anywhere.

I get SQL Server doesn't exist or access denied.

Does anybody have any idea at all.

    Thanx

  • can you connect in the other direction?  Can the server be pinged?  Are you in a domain?  both the old 2000 servers and this one?  what authentication are you using?

    Cheers,

  • Hi Guys,

Thank you for your comments as it turned out , I was just being silly. Being new the SQL 2005 I didnt realise that the default for developer edition is for it not to be available to other servers and that you actually have to enable it in the surface area configuration.

So I solved the problem by just setting it to accept local and remote connections.

Next time I will read the documentation first
