connection established error

  After installation of SQL server 2000,I can not login to named server,it shows the error "connection could not be established[server2\sqlservermanager].Please verify SQL server is running and check your SQL server registration properties.But I can login to [local].

  1) Are you trying to log into the server using SQL authentication or Windows authentication? Try logging in using Windows authentication.

  2) Are you sure that the SQL services are running for this server?
