Connection Problem

    I have not been administering for awhile so I am having some memory lapses.

    I am trying to connect to linked server

    exec 'server1\server1'.pubs.dbo.spname

    Getting Incorrect syntax near 'server1\server1'

    Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

    u will try

    exec server1.pubs.dbo.spname

    The problem ended up being single quotes vs double quotes.

    I put in the double quotes "OAKDB01\OAKDBO1'. and it worked.

    On the job maintenance plan I used [OAKDB01\OAKDB01].
