Creating a new instance on SQL Server 2008 on a 2008 R2 Failover Cluster

  • Hello All,

We have a SQL Server 2008 instance on the cluster server and would like to add a new instance to have our Sharepoint 2010 installed on the new instance.

Is there any article out there that could help us achieve this.

    Thanks!

  • I'm sure there is one but I don't have a link at the moment..

With that said, the installation of a second instance is the same as the first, you have to have a new IP address and a new server net name and probably an instance name. If you installed SQL before as a default instance you will be required to specify an a named instance name. It will need new shared disks.

I guess the question I have is what specifically is the question you have?

    CEWII

  • you are going to create ACTIVE\ACTIVE cluster installation of SQL Server, you have to define the separate resource for the second instance with a new IP
