Are Cumulative Updates really cumulative? I have SQL Server 2008 R2. If there are bugs that can be
fixed by cumulative updates, do I directly use the required update, ex CU4, or do I need to update each Cumulative Update
in order till the required update has been applied(CU 1,2,3 and then 4)?
w.r.t this I found advice on slipstreaming to bypass applying each CU in order. But, slipstream looks to be
oriented toward failed installs or potential SQL Server install bugs, rather than as a method to bypass applying each update
sequentially.
So
1) If I need CU4, can I update CU4 directly over my 2008 R2 RTM?
2) Can slipstreaming be used for pathcing when an install has already been completed?
