DB-LINK from SQL Server 2008 (windows 2008)

  • Hi All,

We have three SQL Server 2008 server (SRV1, SRV2 and SRV3).

When we created a DB-LINK from SRV1 to SRV3 all is ok. But when we created DB-LINK from SRV2 to SRV3 we can't created the same DB-LINK.

    SRV1 configuration is: Windows 2003 + SQL Server 2008.

    SRV2 configuration is: Windows 2008 + SQL Server 2008.

Both servers (SRV1 and SRV2) are in the same domain.

Somedy can help us? How we could resolve this problem?

    Many thanks in advance.

  • There are information that i considered important:

SRV2: SQL Server 2008 is in CLUSTER.

Also if we connected from SRV2 via SQL Server Management Studio using SRV3 IP number we can open SRV3 database connection. But if we connect via INSTANCE NAME we cannot connect to it (from SRV1 all both connection mode are possible); we receive the next message:

    TITLE: Connect to Server

    ------------------------------

    Cannot connect to SRV3.

    ------------------------------

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)

  • Hi all,

Finally created the DB-LINK from SRV3 putting the all domain information as server name (SRV3.SUBDOMAIN.DOMAIN).

    Thank you very much.
