Differences between Management Studio and Management Studio Express?

  • Are there any differences between Management Studio and Management Studio Express?  I ask because I'm able to see SQL Agent in the object explorer and view error logs in Management Studio, but not in Express.  MS is installed on the server, and MSE is on my PC.  I using version 9.00.2047.00 on each machine and I'm using the same login credentials.

    Thanks in advance...Chris

  • Unfortunately, one of the big let downs of SQL Express is that there is no agent.

  • Ive found you can get more functionality out of MSDE 2000 than sql express 20005, especially due to there being no agent on 2005.

  • Management Studio Express is the free tool that MS supplied to work with SQL Server Express.

Management Studio is the tool that comes with the other editions of SQL Server; Workgroup, Standard, Enterprise, and Developer.
