Easy Listening

  • What are CD's?

After the demise of albums when I could no longer run my fingers along those crisp edges of the cover in anticipation of opening it up and reading what was inside all the while enjoying all the graphics on both the inside and out, I kinda lost interest in those little plastic disks inside cheesy boxes with limited artwork and reading.

I know, better sound, last longer, won't warp (ok they do) and all that stuff.

I'd have to go the rip route and load up a single 100GB player (with video) and trash the CD's.

Besides, what good are CD's if you don't have a player on that island or while lost in space?

    I know off topic.

  • Right now:

Music Has The Right To Children - Boards Of Canada

The Soft Bulletin - Flaming Lips

    Sung Tongs - Animal Collective

A self-made mix tape of Lee Scratch Perry's best.

    Decade - Neil Young

  • I'm from the generation of not buying CDs so much anymore, but I do own these things you call CDs

The 5 I'd take with me are:

    * Brigid's Cross - The Parting Glass (here's to my Irish roots and Cleveland roots)

    * Chuck Taylor and the Dixie Squid - There's No Crabs Within This Band (my favorite CD of them, taking me back to my college days and appreciation for other music; the song Louisiana Fairytale on this CD is the theme from the TV show This Old House )

    * Chumbawamba - Tub Thumping (give me something to dance with and get motivated with)

    * Enya - Watermark (something to relax with, my favorite relaxing CD by her)

    * Blessid Union of Souls - Home (just another favorite CD of mine)

  • What's in my traveling pack now...

    1. Asleep at the Wheel - Live & Kickin'

    2. Riders in the Sky - Silver Jubilee

    3. Erich Kunzel & Cincinnati Pops - American Jubilee

    4. A Cheiftains Celebration

    5. Willie Nelson - Stardust

  • Oh, yeah - one more (sorry, can't limit it)

  • Well, since there's no electricity and probably not an endless supply of batteries....my list would have to be the CDs that I really love to listen to:

    Top three would be soundtracks:

    TOP GUN

    Streets of Fire

    Eddie and the Cruisers

Doc Friday (a CD made by a group of guys in the U.S. Air Force. The CD name is also the name of their band)

    Harry Chapin - Greatest Hits

    -SQLBill

  • Wow, SQL Bill!

I didn't think about the sound tracks.  Those are all good choices!

Hope life is treating you well!  I have missed your smiling face and insight!

  • I agree with all of Steve's choices with the editoral, but must admit I have found new choices of music(rock) that I don't have to worry about what my kids repeat in the lyrics  and they are all awesome! My updated choices are now anything by: Tobymac, ReliantK, Switchfoot, Hawk Nelson, and Jeremy Camp.

  • I'm on a two month trip overseas, so I had to make a similar, though not so limited, choice (I have a 1GB and a 2GB card for my mp3 player). My five are:

    Eagles Hotel California

Robert Earl Keen No. 2 Live Dinner

    The Band Last Waltz

    Beethoven Ninth Symphony

    Johnny Cash Greatest Hits

  • Metallica - ...and justice for all

    Gatecrasher - Gatecrasher Classics

    Last Samurai Soundtrack

Sneaky Sound System - Sneaky Sound System

    Filter - Title Of Record

    ------------------------------
Life is far too important to be taken seriously

  • Bridge of Sighs - Robin Trower

    Animals - Pink Floyd

    Heaven and Hell - Sabbath

    Neil Young Greatest Hits

    Any... Stevie Ray Vaughn

  • Someone said:

    >My theory is that anything too hard-hitting will grow boring over time, so most of them need to be able to just flow over you, with a smattering of blood-stirrers.

True if only ONE song was to be chosen.

    5 CDs => 60 songs...

I found three death metal lists, so I'll be adding a fourth:

) Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power (pure energy)

) At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul (best album ever)

) Metallica - Master of Puppets (did you guys forget about their best...!?)

    ) The Haunted - rEVOLVEr

    ) Mastodon - Leviathan

Some nice tips worth checking out on the contributed lists!

  • It would be a difficult choice, but I'd have to say the following:

Tori Amos - a difficult choice, but I'd probably take Tales from the Librarian

    Metallica - Ride the Lightning

    Melissa Etheridge - Greatest hits

Johnny Cash - any of them

    Mozart - any of them

  • The Who - Who's Next

    The Beatles - Abbey Road

    Deep Purple - Machine Head

    Chicago - Chicago Transit Authority

    Yes - The Yes Albun

  • Yes is a great choice. I saw them in concert years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.
