I'll be starting a new position shortly and each time I do I like to review my toolset for any handy software that I may not be using. Here is a list of my favourites - does anyone have any others to add or any comments?
SQL Server Management Studio - free is good!
TOAD for SQL Server - disclaimer: I am on the Quest Expert Panel
WinMerge - for comparing edits on different text file versions, free, open source
AdeptSQL Diff - for comparing databases such as dev to qa to production
SourceGear Vault - source control for all SQL scripts, free for single user accounts
