Features in Evaluation edition that don't work on Windows 7?

  • Are there features in SQL 2008 (R2 or non R2) that don't work in the Evaluation edition , since it SQL Server is developed primarily for Server OS's? How about Developer Edition?

    What I'm seeing is

    1) The Mirroring tab doesn't appear when you right-click a database that is a partner in a mirror set up.

    2) I can't get the Maintenance Plan workspace to open.

These thing do work on a Server 2008 VM I'm running.

I have the same problem. Please help.

  • My workaround has been to build a virtual machine running Windows Server 2008 and install SQL Server there. You can connect SSMS to the instance on the host OS and do what you want.

If you don't have at least 4GB of RAM on your machine, I'd suggest Windows Server 2003 SP2, on which SQL 2008 & R2 are also supported, but you can get away with less RAM.
