Full Text Gatherer

  • Hello Database people...

I have a problem with full text indexing where the catalogs will not populate.  This is on three different servers (out of many many more).   We have de-installed and re-installed the Full Text indexing service.  Security seems to be okay between the Database and the MS Search service.

Has anyone had any issues with the Gatherer before?  And if so, what did you do to fix it?

    Thanks...Jeff

  • Are the 3 machines that are failing on the same network as the machine from which you are starting the full text indexing?

We have a situation where Production is a seperate 2000 domain from our Corporate 2000 domain.  I have full IP access to all production servers, and use SQL Logins to manager the Production servers since the domains are not trusted (or trusting) at all.  When I attempt to start Full-Text  Indexing on a server in Production from a Corporate machine, the process begins, "claims" to be populating, but no items are ever added.

Also, if the service account under which SQL Server is running (and hopefully MS Search?) has had the account changed using the service control applet (control panel - admin tools - services), there are some permissions that might be broken.

  • Hi Jeff,

I've posted a similar question http://qa.sqlservercentral.com/forums/shwmessage.aspx?forumid=5&messageid=115102 couple days ago. Does it sound like a behaviour you're experiencing? I logged support call with MS but did not go too far with that - so far I reinstalled FTSearch to no avail. The last advice from MS was that something's wrong with the registry and I need to pave the server - well, that's not on my books as yet.

Let me know if you do find anything.
    Cheers
