Full-text is not working

  Hi forum,

   

  I reinstalled SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition on Windows 2003 Server and applied SP3a. Full-text search now exhibits very strange (and completely useless behaviour): through Enterprise Manager I can administer full-text search service, create, drop catalogs, add full-text index for tables, etc; however, when I start Full Population for a catalog, it goes off but never seems to complete even for tiny tables such as pub_info in pubs database (the status "Population in progress" is continuously displayed). I have sneaking suspicion that things started to go south after one of the latest security patches for Windows 2003 but could verify it.

   

  If it helps: the server is dual CPU machine with 768MB of RAM (not that it should make any difference).

   

  Did anyone come across of a similar behaviour?

  I haven't seen this, but one of my tasks over the next few weeks is to do some testing on full text search. Hopefully I'll learn a few things.
