high processor usage on merge replication

  • i have a publisher (sqlsrv 2000 standard) and 3 subscribers (msde, push), connected by isdn lines.

when i make update operations at publisher (over 100 rows), the subscribers need more than 10 min to syncronize. the processor at publisher is not used, the isdn link is not used, but the processor at subscriber stay high (100% usage).

I used profiler and every sp_upd_xxxxxx executed took more than 2 seconds.

at insert and deletes all is normal

is something about msde, is slower than other editions on replication?

  • Sorry, I don't have a solution but I can confirm that this should not happen I ran merge replication over ISDN line myself with much more updates and I've never had these problems.

One question: How are your mergen agents scheduled ? Do they run continously or once every couple of minutes. You might try to change the schedule.

  • the agents are scheduled to run every two hours. I tried on other system (with vmware) and replication work great (about 60 changes/s). But here I have only 3-4 chages/s.

Computers have 512MB RAM for MSDN and 1GB for SQL Server Standard and database is small.
